It wouldn’t be the worst parenting decision you could make. This parody is designed to be age-appropriate for the YA audience of the original Skyward series.

There is far less violence and death than in the original series, but it does contain vague references to drugs, as well as a surprising number of references to pooping.

Afterwards, you might also need to explain what a cult is to your child if they are not familiar with the concept, so … yeah.

There are also important plot points and jokes that rely on knowledge of 90s technology and events that may go over your child’s head, but this can also serve as a bonding opportunity where you can share stories from your childhood that was so very very very very long ago. The 90s are a hip, vintage time now, so your expert knowledge may earn you brownie points if the whales decide to bless you.

Sky Wart is mainly a parody of the first book in the series, Skyward, but it also contains references to Starsight and Cytonic. If you haven’t read Starsight and/or Cytonic, you can still enjoy Sky Wart, but there may be some jokes and references that you miss, and you may get a few minor spoilers.

At the time Sky Wart was released, the final book in the Skyward series had not been published yet, so there are definitely no spoilers for Defiant.
